Fall MAMA/ADO Meeting

Helena, Montana

October 19, 2021

CALL TO ORDER – 4:05 p.m.

MAMA President Jeff Kadlec called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m.

REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES -4:05 p.m.

 

Shane Ketterling moved to approve the minutes; Brian Sprenger seconded. The minutes were approved as presented

 

FINANCIAL UPDATE – 4:08 p.m.

 

Ian McKay presented current year to date financials to the membership.

 

Checking:  $2,264.88

Savings:  $0.00

Money Market:  $42,110.27

Total Assets:  $44,375.15

 

UPDATE OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND INTERNS – 4:10 p.m.

 

Shane Ketterling updated the membership on the internship program. Other airports were encouraged to apply for the internship funding.

 

2021 LEGISLATIVE DISCUSSION – 4:16 p.m.

 

Tom Ebzery reports the following:

  • Not a normal session due to COVID but the State is doing well financially

  • Very little new legislation in general

  • The Transportation Committee discussed the performance of HB660 and whether state-owned airports are properly funded

  • The overall impression of the Governor’s performance was favorable and largely due to a strong and knowledgeable team that he has built.

FUEL SHORTAGE – 4:29 p.m.

 

Lucas Locke advises that Valley County had issues with fuel availability last summer running out for eleven days during firefighting operations. The fuel supplier had allocation limits set by the refinery.

 

Jeff Wadekamper reported that Helena Regional had low capacity and relied on the supply chain as wells as JP8 provided from the National Guard supply.

 

Brian Sprenger explained several compounding issues in Bozeman led to fuel challenges including drastically increasing demand and communication among stakeholders. The airport is working to expand fuel capacity.

 

AIRLINE RENDEZVOUS – 4:32 p.m.

 

Jeff Wadekamper, Helena Regional, will be hosting next year and gave high marks for this year’s event. He will approach the membership with ideas for next year.

 

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION – 4:43 p.m.

 

  • Rob Ratkowski – Update on terminal project and growth at GPI

 

  • Shane Ketterling – BIL, opening a major phase of the terminal after the new year. Ramp work and land acquisition to buffer between housing development. New FBO & hangar on the horizon, cargo has seen a large increase.

 

  • Brian Ellestad – MSO, Phase 2 for terminal project going to bid, parking lot project about 95% complete, working on master plan update.

 

  • Jeff Wadekamper – HLN, Training center has been updated and is seeing an increase in demand. Runway project and airport authority project. Possible research and development project for power back up in the works.

 

  • Rick Ryan – Butte, EAS Service has expanded with United Airlines. Lighting upgrade for parallel runway. A lot of helicopters operations with the fire season.

 

  • Lucas Locke – GGW, Master plan project.

 

  • Jeff Kadlec – WYS, EA on terminal completed, SDs, parking lot, road and wastewater connections being worked on.

 

OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS – 4:54 p.m.

 

Shane Ketterling gave congratulations to Ian McKay for earning the AAE and Brian Ellestad for being confirmed as the Director of MSO.
